When I was a child, the year 2009 or 2010 seemed so far away. It was the stuff of sci–fi movies and comic books. Writers postulated that by the end of the first decade of the 21st century we would have a colony on the moon, would have been to Mars at least once, and that technology would have so altered our lives that it would be virtually indistinguishable from before.
